MANAGING THE FUTURE - public conference

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and ALDA - European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) are pleased to invite you to the public conference “Managing the Future for Environmental Resilience”, which will be organised on October 9th, in Studio 5, Place Sainte Croix, 1050 Brussels.

The conference is organised within the FOSTER - Future oriented Solutions Toward Environmental Resilience, a two years project funded by the CERV - Citizens Equality Rights and Values programme of the European Union.

The conference will provide a forum for exchanging ideas on how to overcome short-termism in the local management of climate change-related phenomena and to plan for a more prepared and participatory approach to environmental governance.

The morning session will begin with a keynote speech from the European Environment Agency, followed by a panel debate titled "Local and regional policy making for a sustainable future" which also includes contributions from relevant and institutional speakers who will discuss the current challenges facing European cities in addressing climate change and introduce new and innovative approaches.

The afternoon session will comprise an expert talk, during which insights and experiences on strategic foresight will be exchanged, as well as on transversal elements which are crucial for effective and future-oriented climate change policies. These include decentralised and multi-stakeholder cooperation, participatory policy-making, positive framing, non-formal education and so on.
