Deepening democracy through deliberation and participation in constitutional and legislative change

The Open Research Europe Collection is launched by the COST Action Constitution-making and deliberative democracy. Its main aim is to disseminate research and reflections elaborated by all the actors engaged to discuss and reflect on this democratic challenge, not only in terms of normative ideals but also and above all on the empirical challenges raised by this complex and multi-faceted democratic transformation. This Collection is currently led by Dr Yanina Welp, and Prof Elena García-Guitián, Stefan Lütgenau.

    • Deliberation in constitution-making process and basic laws

    • The role and nature of citizens assemblies on these processes

    • Analysis of case studies at a global level (experiences of institutionalization of citizens panels of assemblies)

    • The deliberative nature of referendums and legislative initiatives, as well as other mechanisms of participatory democracy

    • The relation between deliberation and democracy, and the use of participatory mechanisms in autocratic regimes

    • Deliberation and citizen participation at the European level

    • Analysis of case studies at a global level (experiences of institutionalization of citizens panels of assemblies)

    • Deliberation on the Conference for the Future of Europe

Open Research Europe is the European Commission’s fully open access publishing platform.
