Election of the new Council of Europe COMISSIONER for HUMAN RIGHTS at the Council of Europe

Foster Europe and the Danube Civil Society Forum have been cooperating fruitfully with the Council of Europe for many years. The Council of Europe is dedicated to a strong and transparent cooperation and dialogue with Civil Society. The common basis and the shared aims for fostering Democracy, Participation, and Human Rights in Europe on national, regional, and local level have been the fundament for this cooperation.

In January 2024, in a few days, the next Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights will be elected for a six-year term. The position of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights is of pivotal relevance for the protection and development of Human Rights and Democracy in Europe. This is why we urge you to get active and participate in the hearing and, if you wish, to promote the candidate of your choice.

Next week Civil Society Organisations have a chance to raise they voices in an online hearing with the three candidates on January 17th. This is to inform you about the role of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the election process, the candidates, and your possibility to be heard and to get active.

Please read the attached information leaflet carefully, share the information, and register for the hearing on January 17th and show your active participation. Human Rights and Democracy affect all of us as citizens in the Council of Europe member states.
