UPDATE:
The Conference on the Future of Europe, CoFE, was the largest exercise to introduce deliberative democratic practices into the polity landscape of the EU. Members and guests of the EU-funded COST Action “Constitution-making and deliberative democracy” debated the planning. Implementation and the results of the CoFE from a scientific perspective. One session was devoted to the question where to go from here and what role deliberative Democracy can play in the Union’s future. The event was co-organised by Foster Europe Foundation and the EU-funded COST Action “Constitution-making and deliberative democracy.
The Working Group 1 on Theory and Practice of the COST Action (CA15137) “Constitution-making and deliberative democracy” (CA15137), together with Foster Europe, Foundation for strong European Regions is organizing a concluding conference on “Future of Europe in Debate: Insights from a Deliberative Democracy Perspective” to be held on September 9-10, 2022, at Diplomatische Akademie Wien-Vienna School of International Studies.
The conference aims to discuss the future of the European Union in the light of the recently concluded Conference on the Future of Europe and more generally regarding the democratization of the EU. A distinctive emphasis is placed on deliberative democratic practices. The purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in exploring deliberation in a supranational, multi-level context in relation to constitutionalism, institutional reform, and related aspects regarding democratic participation.
